The Local Government Engineers Field Days

History
The "Engineers Field Days" were initiated to allow Local Government Engineers from throughout the nation to view the most up to date equipment, plant and machinery available in the civil engineering field.
The event had a humble beginning in 1955 when eight companies displayed their equipment at The Spastic Centre, Allambie Heights NSW.
By comparison the 2000 Field Days which were held at Panthers in Penrith, attracted three hundred and forty exhibitors displaying equipment, plant and machinery valued at millions of dollars.
The event, now the largest of its type in the southern hemisphere, has broadened it's reach and now attracts large numbers from federal and state government departments as well as contractors from the private sector. Over ten thousand local government engineers, contractors and trades people attend the three day exhibition.
It has been the policy of the Institute to hold the Field Days at a location where a worthwhile project could be completed over several years at no cost to organisations, e.g. the Spastic Centre, Big Brother Movement, National Fitness Camp, Narrabeen and the Macquarie University Sports Association.
The dynamic working display is an important part of the Field Days, which allows plant and equipment to be viewed in a working environment and at the same time provide works of permanent benefit to the community.
